Coping with Cancer Programs

BC Cancer helps those living with or affected by cancer to cope with aspects of their care.
BC Cancer offers a variety of services aimed at helping cancer patients and their families deal with the physical, practical, emotional and psychological aspects of their care.
Services include:
  • Advance Care Planning: A form of incapacity planning where individuals go through the process of thinking about and writing down wishes and instructions, in the event that the individual becomes incapable of making decisions themselves.
  • Complementary & Alternative Therapies: used as part of an individual's choice within the process of cancer treatment, to seek to promote health, improve quality of life or encourage healing
  • Exercise Support: Regular exercise is safe and recommended before, during and after cancer treatments.
  • Facts & Feelings: Created for people to learn more about cancer, and also about the emotions that people might be experiencing.
  • Family Support: Provides information, handouts, workbooks and web links for supporting children, teens and caregivers when cancer comes to the family.
  • Emotional Support (Counselling): Provides patients with counsellors to help deal with the distress and challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis.
  • Practical Support: Provides resources on how to help with financial assistance, home support services, transportation, work and school.
  • Nutrition Support
